In 1978, on her debut solo album Water Bearer, singer-songwriter Sally Oldfield released a song called Nenya, perhaps better known after its refrain, Three Rings for the Elven Kings, as one of the Songs of the Quendi. Nenya, the Ring of Water, was in the possession of Galadriel, from whose point of view the song is written. It describes her return to the Undying Lands after more than seven thousand years of exile, and her feelings as she finally approaches her true home, an apparently lost and unattainable world. There is indeed a land that awaits us, a land free from worldly decay, if only we would follow the path of the ancient ones – the Elves.
